Things to Do

Highland operates tours of the home and you can explore the grounds year round. All of the presidential homes also offer events throughout the year and private tours.
When you are ready to get outside, Montpelier offers free hiking trails through old growth forests. One of the trails connects with the Market at Grelen. You can hike to Grelen, grab some lunch to refuel and reenergize, and then head back to Montpelier. Nearby Preddy Creek Park has ten miles of hiking, running, and biking trails ready for you. If you are interested in the railroad and trains, Gordonsville offers a self guided tour of the railroad path through Orange County which visit former railroad stations and explain the history of the railroad.
