Dining and Shopping in Lignum

The Lignum area does not have any restaurants within the community, but it is just a short drive over to Locust Grove to grab a bite to eat.  You can enjoy a meal at Clear Water Fire Grill or head next door to El Vaquero for some Mexican cuisine.  If you have a hankering for sushi or hibachi, try Tokyo.  From spring through early fall, you can grab a yummy ice cream cone at either the IceBox Creamery or Cool Zone.  Head to Bella Cucina for some Italian food or pizza or try out their sister restaurant which features Mexican dishes.  Residents with homes in Lignum can also hop on Route 3 and drive in Culpeper to try out one of the many restaurants there.  Culpeper is also a great place to get your weekly grocery shopping done.  Additional stores like Target and Kohls supply everyday essentials and apparel.   You can also visit the Walmart or Locust Grove in Locust Grove for groceries.

Things to Do

Salubria was the home a man in love built for the woman he wanted to marry.  After many other families had lived in the property over the years, it is now part of the Germanna Foundation.  Tours of the property were available and now you can rent it for events or photo shoots.  The Germanna Foundation also maintains four hiking trails that begin near the visitor’s center.  Explore the Siegen Forest on the trails that run along the Rapidan River if you are looking for a place to hike that is not too far away from the homes in Lignum.   While in Locust Grove you can also play golf at one of the three golf courses in the area.  The Lake of the Wood’s Golf Course is open to both the residents of the gated community and the Public.  Meadows Farms and Somerset Farms also offer golfing.  Don’t forget to head over to Bees and Trees Farm store to stock up on local honey, jams, beef, and Christmas trees.  A visit to Gobbler Hill Farm will not disappoint; they host events throughout the year, grow beautiful plants, and have a shop full of unique goods.
