The first car I owned was a 1967 VW Bug; after a year of saving money mowing lawns, I traveled to Denver, Colorado from Colorado Springs with five hundred dollars in my pocket to purchase it. It was customized with a dented bumper, and I had to tow it home since I didn’t even have a license. Over the next few months, with some assistance from my dad, I restored the car and was ready to roll when the state of Colorado granted me a license. Since then, I have always appreciated the Volkswagen Bug and am excited for Bug Out 85 to make its return this year.
