Things to Do
Barboursville is home to Barboursville Vineyards. In addition to the fantastic wine produced from the beautiful vineyard, the property also contains the ruins of a mansion destroyed by fire in 1884 from which the town gets it’s name. Designed by Thomas Jefferson for his friend James Barbour, the ruins reflect Jefferson’s style of architecture, and visitors to the winery are able to take a look at what remains of the mansion. Four County Players, central Virginia’s longest operating community theater, performs at the ruins. Palladio Restaurant, a fine dining experience, is also located at Barboursville Vineyards.
From Barboursville, you can set off on a trail of other local wineries, head into Charlottesville, or drive along the Blue Ridge Mountains.
