King George County is located next to Stafford county and is bordered by the Rappahannock River and the Potomac River. Mostly rural, the town of King George is the county seat as well as home to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. King George is at the upper part of Virginia’s Northern Neck; a peninsula on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Even with rural roots, there are many homes in King George as the community grows. Many people find King George appealing for it’s location near Fredericksburg and military bases. The homes in King George are situated on acreage and in neighborhoods. Hopyard Farm is a community found not far from Rt. 3. It is a short drive to Fredericksburg and nearby military bases and is ideal for commuters. Hopyard Farm has homes from several builders that are one level living ranches and two story colonials. It has a community pool, parks, playgrounds, fitness center, clubhouse, and is near a public boat launch. Presidential Lakes is another King George community with over eight hundred homes and, of course, a lake. Sierra Ridge is a new developing community between Fredericksburg and Dahlgren that offer homes on one acre lots. There are also townhouses in King George. Dining and Shopping in King George
There are several places to eat throughout King George County. You can enjoy a view of the Potomac River while enjoying seafood at Tim’s II by car or boat. You can grab a pizza at Kings Pizza and Italian Restaurant or head over to Dahlgren where there are numerous options from Five Guys to Thai. There are several grocery stores throughout King George that offer access to everyday essentials as well as auto repair shops, pharmacies, and local small businesses. Walmart is located in Dahlgren. If you enjoy antique shopping, make a visit to The Cobb House, thrift at the Opp Shop, or stroll through the aisles at the Unique Antiques Mall. Nearby Fredericksburg also has many stores to shop at when you need a day out of the house.
Things to do in King George
Homes in King George are never far from something to do. You can plan a visit to Belle Grove, the birthplace of James Madison, for afternoon tea or a weekend visit. Get outdoors by walking on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail; a flat sixteen mile trail on a railroad bed with scenic views along the way. Visit Caledon State Park for hiking through beautiful old growth forests and looking for birds, including bald eagles. Explore the waterfront of the Potomac. Enjoy a sample of wine at the Estate at White Hall Vineyard which has several events throughout the weekend including trivia and food trucks. The Backporch Vineyard hosts public weekend events where you can enjoy a glass of wine and food. Both vineyards also host special events such as weddings.
