The largest community in Locust Grove, Virginia, Lake of the Woods is located just off of Route 3 and is about halfway between Culpeper and Fredericksburg. It is in the northern section of Orange County. Currently, Lake of the Woods covers over 2,600 acres with over 4,200 lots and 41 miles of paved roads. The Lake of the Woods Association, Inc, established in 1972, is responsible for the maintenance of the community.
No two homes in Lake of the Woods look alike. They are tucked away in lots with plenty of trees and many are bordered by the numerous playgrounds and parks. Basketball courts, jungle gyms, baseball fields, tennis courts and walking trails offer plenty of outdoor activities.
It couldn’t be called Lake of the Woods, Virginia without a lake right? There are 850 lake view lots stretched over two man-made lakes. With eight sandy beaches, the lake offers so much outdoor fun. Boating, fishing, canoeing, water skiing and tubing are just some of the possibilities. Homes in Lake of the Woods with docks offer easy access to the lake while two marinas and boat launches are available for use. Keaton’s Lake, the smaller lake, covers 35 acres and is for electric and man powered boats such as fishing boats or kayaks. Keaton’s Lake also has one sandy beach.
If swimming in a lake isn’t your thing, then residents can take advantage of the two outdoor pools. With children’s areas and bathrooms they are the perfect place to spend a hot summer day. The golf course, equestrian center, clubhouse, fitness center, and community building are just some of the additional amenities that Lake of the Woods has to offer. Lake of the Woods is a gated community with it’s own security company. An onsite fire and rescue that services Locust Grove is located near the front gate. Lake of the Woods borders Lignum and Burr Hill on the West, Rhoadesville and Spotsylvania on the south and east.
