By now I’m sure you’ve seen all of the holiday decorations out at the stores.  They have been there since October after all.  While red and green décor has been the go to traditional Christmas color scheme for years and continues to be popular, there is never a bad time to switch it up.  Even if you have your home on the market, you can still decorate and enjoy the warmth of the season. Here are some of the most popular Christmas decorating trends in 2022.

Rainbow  Bright, bold, and colorful décor that just makes you smile is one of the popular Christmas decorating trends this year.  A tree filled with bold green, red, yellow, and blue ornaments or a table set with plates with colorful designs is a favorite for many. When using this bold style throughout your home, coordination is key. You will want the ornaments on the tree to be the same bold colors as the plates on your table or decorations on the mantle.

Vintage Christmas  Pull out grandma’s old ornaments, embrace the jolly vintage Santa and stand up all those nutcrackers on the mantle.  Bottle brush trees and mid-century modern décor aren’t just in antique stores, but are popular items at all the big box stores.  This is my favorite of all the Christmas decorating trends because you get to reuse what you’ve already got.

Red and White Switch out the green for red and you’ve got a new color scheme to decorate your home with this year.  Turn towards a modern Scandinavian design with these colors or take on the farmhouse look by adding the white through textures like pillows, and plaid blankets.  Plus a red and white theme means you can add more candy canes-who doesn’t like that?  The return of candy canes is one of the Christmas decorating trends that I welcome.  Whether it’s the candy or ornamental form, you can expect to see more of these items in the store.

Blue and Metallics  Silver and gold ornaments or small decorative glass trees can add sparkle to any Christmas décor.  Bringing in shades of blue can evoke the feeling of winter.  This popular Christmas decorating trends can take you the traditional Christmas route by adding black accents that help to highlight the shades of blue and make the darker blue hues stand out in the tree.

Pretty in Pink  Pink is becoming a popular color choice.  Incorporate it through ornaments or decorations on garlands along with gold accents.  Soft shades of pink are calming and although not traditionally Christmas can add a romantic feeling to a space.

Natural and Neutral  Styling a home around a neutral color palette is becoming not only a year round style but is also becoming one of the most popular Christmas decorating trends.  Using elements from nature like greenery and wood and combining it with neutral colors and soft greens brings the snowy outdoors inside.  Luckily if you are not into sweeping up pine needles and cleaning sap from surfaces, then there are many faux greenery pieces out there that look realistic.  Paper ornaments and flocked trees all help to add to the look of this trend.

Out of all these popular Christmas decorating trends, you should chose the one that is makes you happy! After all, remembering the purpose behind all this decorating is the most important thing of all.
