Fall in Virginia is a beautiful time of year.  With the changing leaves and cooler temperatures, outdoor adventures are calling!  Here are some things to explore near Locust Grove this fall for the adventurous and those who want to relax.

Shenandoah National Park  The perfect place to take in the fall foliage whether you are an avid hiker or prefer to take in the breathtaking views along the road, Shenandoah National Park never disappoints.  Check out their website for ranger programs happening within the park, find the hiking trails, and get the most current information on everything else happening inside Shenandoah.

Stone Mountain Vineyards The views from this winery in Virginia are amazing.  Relax among the mountaintops while you sip on a favorite wine.  Northwest of Charlottesville, Stone Mountain Vineyards is about an hour and a half from Locust Grove, but be sure to follow the directional signs to the location and not your GPS. It is not far from Shenandoah National Park so you can hike in the morning and enjoy the vineyard in the afternoon.

Lake Anna State Park  While most people immediately think of water sports, Lake Anna also has some hiking trails that are enjoyable during the fall.  These trails are perfect for families of all ages. When your looking for things to do near Locust Grove, you could bring along a picnic and make a day of it.

Downtown Culpeper  A stroll through East Davis Street on Saturday mornings and a stop at the farmers market is a great way to start any weekend.  On Saturday October 19th Culpeper is hosting its annual Hop n Hog Block party; Enjoy live music, unlimited beer and bourbon tastings, and BBQ with your ticket purchase.

Liberty Mills Farm  If you are going to do a corn maze, then it should probably be the largest one in Virginia.  Liberty Mills Farm offers a day full of outdoor entertainment.  There are various levels of the maze and even one in the evenings.

Kayaking on Lake Culpeper  Just off of Route 29 behind the Ole Country Store is Lake Culpeper.  You can rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and paddle boats.  When you are all down exploring the lake, head into the Ole Country Store for a delicious lunch!

The Market at Grelen  A beautiful shop and cafe that also has season pick your own fruits, the Market at Grelen is a great place to visit.  In the fall, you can pick some apples in the fields and check out the shop for unique home goods.  The cafe features farm to table ingredients.  There are also hiking trails that provide beautiful views of the surrounding country.

James Madison’s Montpelier Located in Orange County, Montpelier the home of James Madison .   As a resident of Orange county it is free to enter the property and explore the gardens, exhibits, and eight miles of trails.  There is a fee to tour the home.
