My wife has a fun game that she likes to play on home search sites; she expands the map to the entire U.S. and then picks a random spot to search for homes.  It’s always interesting to see how much homes in each area compare to ours.  Let’s take a look at some homes for sale for 250,000 around the U.S.

Lansing, MI:  According to NAHB, this area is the most affordable large real estate market for middle class buyers.  A quick search of the area shows move-in ready homes at the $250,000 mark with lots of variety in home choice.  Hundred year old Victorians, newer construction, classic colonials, and the ever popular ranch give buyers the opportunity to select a home that fits their needs with square footage ranging from around 1,200 up to 3,000.

Myrtle Beach, SC:  Ready to enjoy some relaxing ocean views?  While 250,000 dollars won’t buy you as much square footage as in Lansing, it can buy proximity to the beach in South Carolina.  Homes in Myrtle Beach in this price range range from about 700 to 1400 square feet.  Typically ranch or cottages, buyers of these homes value the location of the homes.

Amarillo, TX If one level living is your dream, then Amarillo, TX has a lot of homes for sale for you!  With a $250,000 budget, you can own a move-in ready ranch home.  Homes in this price range typically have three bedroom, two bathroom and between 1,500-2000 square feet of living space.

Oceanfront Hawaii Hey we can all dream right?  With a budget of $250,000, there are, unsurprisingly, few options in all of Hawaii.  The good news?  There are options.  With a whole lot of TLC and vision, some of these cabins can be transformed into an awesome home.  The smaller square footage for the homes is a tradeoff for the beautiful views and relaxing ocean waves.

There are so many differences in what a $250,000 home looks like across the U.S. Each area’s real estate market is unique and this leads to move-in ready homes in Texas and Michigan, a smaller footprint home in South Carolina, or a tear down in Hawaii.
