Ranch homes became popular after World War 2 and continue to be popular today. A preferred home style for those of us who don’t like stairs, ranch homes for sale are easy to find in Locust Grove, Orange, or Culpeper. But what makes a house a ranch?
Why is a ranch home appealing?
Ranch homes are made for people who love one level living. Unlike colonial homes with multiple sets of stairs, ranch homes have few, if any, steps. Sprawling horizontally instead of vertically, these homes can range in square footage from about 1,500 square feet to over 2,500. Ranch homes typically have windows in the front and back of the home. They have lower roof lines and can include a garage.
The Interior of Ranch Homes
Inside, ranches usually boast a more open floor plan with a kitchen opening up into a living space. They can be adapted to any style of decorating from farmhouse to mid-century modern. Ranch homes are often wider than they are deep. Backyard decks or patios make extending family gatherings to the outdoors easy especially with the sliding glass or French doors often found in ranch homes. Ranches can be found in HOA and non-HOA communities.
Because they are such a popular home, you can find a 1950’s ranch on the market as well as a new construction one. Take a look at the ranch homes on the market here.
