What designers are saying about the shifts in design
For many years, gray has been the most popular color for walls, home décor, and accent pieces. Anytime I spend a day touring homes in Locust Grove, I am sure to find a few with gray walls. Now, like anything that is popular, gray is handing over its first place position to another color-beige.
The Growing Popularity of Beige
Designers and homeowners are shifting away from the cool tones of grays to warmer shades of beige. Sherwin William’s 2023 Color Collection of the Year brings back warm tones to create cozy welcoming spaces through paint. Neutral colors, like beige, pair well with deep paint colors, highlight textures in rooms, and pair well with natural elements like greenery and wood. In response to the pandemic, people were searching for ways to make their homes in Locust Grove and elsewhere warmer and more comfortable and inviting. One way to do this is to shift from cooler paint tones to warmer ones. We now are seeing this shift reflected in stores.
A look at the top fifty colors from Sherwin Williams shows us a range of warm to cool beige tones along with some grays and whites. In the never ending pendulum of fashion, beige which was once viewed as boring and plain is being appreciated for versatility. Depending on the shade of beige select, it can work on the walls in a room that leans towards modern decor as easily as it can be suited to a room that features a farmhouse feel.
This Homes and Gardens article by Jennifer Ebert explains how you can utilize beige in every room of your home.
Do I need to repaint my home if I want to sell it?
If you are one of the many homes in Locust Grove entering the market, then you may be wondering if it is time to paint your walls. As a Realtor®, I always make specific recommendations to clients based on their home. For example, if a client is planning on moving out prior to selling, then a large boldly painted accent wall may need a coat of paint. If you have walls that need a little love and haven’t been painted in a long time, then you might want to consider going the beige route. I always recommend a neutral color because it helps home buyers imagine themselves living in the homes in Locust Grove that they tour. However, if your walls are in great shape, I don’t think I would recommend painting them just because the gray color is going out of popularity. Like many other things in life, you can’t please everyone…especially with paint color.
