Entertaining overnight guests can be a welcome change of pace. Whether it is a family member or longtime friend, you can help make them feel more at ease in your home by adding a few small touches into the guest room. Having easy access and visibility to frequently used items make your guests feel welcomed. Here are things to include in your guest bedroom.
Water
It’s not fun to stumble through the cabinets of an unfamiliar kitchen at night looking for a glass to fill with water. Instead place some water bottles or cups with a water pitcher in the guest bedroom for whenever someone is thirsty.
Extra Toiletries
Gather up some toiletries and put them in a basket for guests to grab anything that they forgot. You can include things such as:
- toothpaste
- toothbrush
- bar soap
- travel size
- body wash
- travel size shampoo
- travel size conditioner
- nail clippers
- headache medicine
- tissues
- makeup remover
- spare hair dryer
Blankets and Pillows
Pillow preferences are personal. (Say that three times fast.) While you may not be able to replicate what is at home, have some extra pillows in a guest bedroom closet to let everyone select the ones they like. You can also have a couple extra blankets in the closet too.
Wastebasket
Having a place to throw away any trash without having to wander around a home is essential. Remember to include a waste basket in your guest room.
Nightstand with lamps
Nightstands are a great spot for guests to stash small items, leave a phone, or set a book. You can add a lamp for additional lighting; consider one of these lamps that have a spot to plug in a charger too. If your guest bedroom is short on outlets, providing a charging station can be helpful.
Snacks
If your guest arrives late at night after a long day of traveling they may be hungry but not so eager to burst into your kitchen to cook a meal. Place a tray of snacks in the guest room for them to enjoy.
WIFI Password
Make your wifi password available by having it written on a card or displayed in a picture frame in the guest bedroom.
