Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I feel like people fall into two distinct categories for this holiday. First you you are like my wife and I who completely forget that it is a holiday and foolishly try to go out to dinner that night on a whim. Second, you like to plan ahead and iron out the details weeks in advance. Since Valentine’s Day is during the week this year, I would imagine that most people will push their celebration or the weekend either before or after. No matter the category you fall into, here are some easy road trips for Locust Grove locals like you to try out.

Throw Some Axes

Throwing axes may not be the first thing you think of when you hear the words Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean it can be fun!  For Locust Grove locals, make a reservation and head over to FXBG Axes on the weekend to enjoy some target practice.  They will give you a quick lesson on how to throw and then you can spend the evening trying to hit the targets.  Enjoy some light food and drink while you are there too. Couples who take out their aggressions on a wooden target stay together longer right? On the way home to Locust Grove, stop by Itavie New York Grill and Bakery for a delicious meal.

Enjoy some Wine

A pleasant and picturesque drive for Locust Grove locals, head over to Gray Ghost Vineyards in Amissville to enjoy their 29th Annual Chocolates and Cabernet on February 11th, 12th, 18th, or 19th.  You get a wine tasting, a glass of wine, and a plate full of delicious chocolates. Spending a leisurely afternoon relaxing with your loved one sounds perfect to me!

Take a Walk

You never know what February has in store for central Virginia.  Sometimes it is cold and at other times pleasant.  If the weather permits, take a road trip to the Saunders-Monticello Trail for a pleasant walk through the woods.  On the property of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the trails are open to the public.  Afterwards grab a meal at one of the many restaurants in Charlottesville.

Whether you get to do one of these road trips for Locust Grove locals or not, I hope you are able to spend some quality time with your loved ones this year!
