One impactful way to upgrade your kitchen during a remodel is to add a backsplash.  There are seemingly endless color options and tile sizes to choose from, but where should a kitchen backsplash start and stop?  Here are some guidelines to help you decide what to do in the kitchen of your Locust Grove home.

Place Tile on the Walls with Cabinets

These are the walls that most people consider tiling in their homes.  Placing tiles on the spans of these walls between the lower and upper cabinets is the most  natural spot for tile in your Locust Grove home.  Stopping the tile at the end of the upper cabinets makes sense if the wall continues into another space in your home like an eat-in kitchen or family room.

Go vertical

In smaller kitchens that maybe only have one wall, tiling the entire open space on the wall makes the space feel larger and unified in purpose.  Meanwhile, in kitchens with high ceilings, taking the tiles up to the top of the cabinets or range hood can help draw the eye upwards and make the space feel complete.  The bottom of the upper cabinets can also be a good stopping point for the tile.  No matter what direction you go, make sure to stop at the same point along all the walls of your kitchen that you tile.

Put in the effort around windows

It may be tempting to just ignore the space below a window in the kitchen of your Locust Grove home, but don’t.  The tile will look more complete if you continue it along the window.  While this can make tricker cuts for yourself for your tile installer, the completed look will be one long line of tile that stretches from one end of the cabinets to the other.

Use a shelf

Sometimes the edge of the upper cabinets does not align with the countertop or lower cabinets.  When this happens, you can consider adding some floating shelves to extend the length of the upper cabinets in your Locust Grove home and create a natural stopping place for the tile that reaches the end of the countertop as well.

The tile flows around the window and shelves create a natural stopping point at the end of the wall.

Because every kitchen is different, you really have to spend some time thinking about the placement of the backsplash and what works best for the layout in your Locust Grove home.
