Kitchens and bathrooms are two areas that buyers scrutinize more closely when searching for a home to buy. Those rooms are often associated with more expensive items to upgrade, so often buyers who are budget-conscious look for ones that are updated and don’t need immediate repairs. Are you thinking about selling your home or just taking on a home improvement project? Here are some easy ways to upgrade a bathroom in your home.
Upgrade a Bathroom On a Budget
1. Install new hardware Do you still have the builder grade light fixtures or an old toilet paper holder or towel bar. By updating these fixtures you can make your bathroom instantly feel newer and fresher. Just make sure that you match everything by keeping the fixtures in the same metal tone family.
2. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Switch out the mirror on the wall for one with a frame. Check out stores like TJMaxx or a Goodwill to find some more cost effective options. Remember you can always cover the glass and spray paint the frame if you find one that is perfect except for the color. Have a giant mirror that you are not interested in replacing? Try framing it out with some wood to make it look more finished.
3. Vanity Glow Up While replacing a single with a double vanity would always be appealing to home buyers, sometimes budget or space doesn’t allow such a splurge. If so, consider painting the current vanity to update it. Let the associates at the paint store know that you want to paint a bathroom vanity and they will help you find the best paint for the job. Don’t forget to change up the faucet.
4. Flooring Anyone else ever live in a house with carpet in the bathroom? I see you out there! There are lots of inexpensive waterproof flooring options available that are easy to install. If you are handy and have some experience, tile is also an option. Although more expensive, if the space is smaller the cost will be less too.
5. Make it Neutral Bathrooms are typically smaller spaces. Often dark or bold colors can close them in even more. To appeal to as many buyers as possible, try painting the walls a neutral color that will open up the space and make it seem bright.
Putting in some effort to upgrade a bathroom will help you to enjoy them more while also appealing to potential buyers.
