In a housing market where just over half of the buyers find the home they purchased on the internet, it is important for seller’s properties to stand out. One way we can accomplish this is through photography.

When looking at homes on a website, 89% of buyers responded that they rank the photos as very useful. (2021 NAR Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends) This means that almost all buyers are using the photos of a home as a way to determine if the home fits their needs. Photographs of rooms with poor lighting or cluttered countertops can immediately cause potential buyers to keep scrolling to the next home.

To make your home stand out in pictures, make sure your home is ready for them! As a Realtor® I give suggestions to my sellers about furniture arrangement to make your home’s best features stand out. Spend some time before photograph day clearing counters, tucking away the pile of stuffed animals on a child’s bed, and taking all the papers off the refrigerator. On picture day, turn on all the lights and open the windows to let the light inside. Using a professional photographer also means we have an advantage of being able to lighten photographs if it happens to be a rainy day outside and natural light is limited.
