Next to kitchens, bathrooms are important rooms in homes to buyers. Whether you live in Wilderness Shores in Locust Grove, Reva in Culpeper, or elsewhere there are ways easy ways to spruce up your bathroom that can update it for you and future home buyers. But, what do you do to prep your bathroom for showings when your home is for sale? Try out these simple tricks for staging a bathroom to make an appealing space for buyers as they visit your home.

1. Daily clean A bathroom can show the age of a home and how well it has been maintained. Since a bathroom gets daily use it does require a little extra effort to keep it sparkly clean. Whether it is the night before you go to bed or in the morning, tuck a box with cleaning products in the sink cabinet with supplies to give the countertop, mirrors, toilet, and shower stall a wipe down. Having it clean goes a long way in staging a bathroom.

2. Let in the light Having lots of light in bathrooms for getting ready is important to buyers. So open up the blinds and curtains to let in the light. Don’t have a window in your bathroom? Switch the lightbulbs to brighter ones.

3. Refresh caulk The caulking used around showers, bathtubs, and toilets gets dirty, stained, and mildewed not matter how often you clean it. Removing the old and replacing it with new is a quick way to refresh the space.

4. Declutter Having makeup products, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and other products on a countertop is convenient. However, when staging a bathroom, you want buyers to be able to imagine themselves in the space. They may think your bathroom is lacking in storage if the countertops are covered with things even if it’s really not. Using a couple containers, stash all your everyday products under the sink. This makes it easy to pull out or put away when you need it. Added bonus: keeps strangers away from your toothbrush. Now is also a perfect time to go through all your items in the bathroom and determine what you need, can box up for storage, and what you can toss.

5. Deep Clean Before your home goes on the market give all your bathrooms one good deep clean. Get rid of all the water marks from shower doors, replace shower curtains as needed. Scrub scuffs off of floors and walls.

6. Put out the “fancy towels” Pick a neutral color towel to hang from the towel bar. This towel isn’t meant for your everyday use. You want it hang there looking pretty, fresh, and clean…just like your bathroom.

7. Add simple décor Now that the countertops are bare, add simple coordinated décor like a clear jar of cotton balls, some rolled towels in a basket, or a green plant can be accents in the room. Remember to keep it simple.

Bonus Tip: Do you have nice tilework in your shower? If so, then leave the curtain closed so that buyers can see that custom touch!
