Nothing beats fresh food from the farm!
Having the opportunity to get out into a field and gather food is an experience that gives you a better understanding and appreciation for the farmers who do it everyday. There are many farms near Locust Grove that provide delicious food for residents to enjoy. Whether you go directly to the farm or visit a stand at a farmers market, the quality and taste is far superior to what’s in a supermarket. Luckily we don’t have to travel far to local farms that offer pick you own experiences to Locust Grove locals.
Here are some pick your own places near Locust Grove
Opening in July when the blueberries are ripe, Gold Hill Blueberry Farm, located in Unionville off of Route 522, is a great place to pick blueberries. In addition to the chemical free berries, you can also find elderberries, persimmons, and grass-fed angus beef for sale.
Throughout the spring and into the fall, the Market at Grelen offers blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, plum, and apples for you to pick your own. Grelen also has a café and garden shop. There are trails to explore too that link to Montpelier. Grelen is located in Somerset which is off of Route 20 about halfway between the town of Orange and Barboursville.
Liberty Mills Farm features many events and activities for families. They have pick your own strawberries in the spring and pumpkins in the fall. You can purchase tickets to the many events they have throughout the year like Flowers on the Farm and Blooms and Butterflies. Check out their website for more details.
Miller Farms Market features pick your own strawberries, blackberries, and pumpkins. They also grow lots of other delicious produce like corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, greens, and squash that are available for purchase in their store.
