Have you ever wondered what a Realtor® does all day? Come spend the day with me!

Today I thought I would take you along on Tuesday.  One of the things that I enjoy about my job is that everyday is different.  While I have set routines for what to do when I walk a home with a first time homebuyer or go to a closing, my schedule for the day is fluid and changes based on my clients needs.  Here is what my day as a Locust Grove Realtor ® looked like.

6:00 a.m. Good morning!  Thanks to the tussle between two neighborhood dogs on an early morning walk, I’m up.  I spend a few minutes admiring the dedication of pet owners to be up and out in the dark cold morning to walk their friends, and then I check emails and make some notes about what I need to do today in the office.

7:00-8:00 a.m.  It’s time to get the littlest Jones up and ready for school.  After breakfast, we head off to the bus stop.

9:00-10:30 a.m.  I spend time doing paperwork…my least favorite part of the day as a Locust Grove Realtor ®, but the coffee is kicking in.  When I can’t stand to stare at the screen anymore, I call two clients to give them updates about recent showings they had on their homes.   I respond to emails and texts and schedule a septic inspection. I won’t be sharing pictures from that- you are welcome.

10:30-11:15 a.m.  I got the call from a buyer’s agent that the final walk-through went well and they have signed the papers at closing.  I drove over to the home to get my sign and lock box off the property.  I also let the seller know everything went well. I stop at the post office and grab some stamps.

11:15-11:30 a.m.  This Locust Grove Realtor ® is hungry so it’s lunch time!  It was leftovers from last night’s dinner-chicken quesadilla.

11:30-1:00 p.m.  It’s time to hit the road again.  I stop by a home my out of town buyer is purchasing in Orange to make sure that items on the home inspection request list have been repaired.  Then I replaced a few road direction signs to a home I have for sale in the area that have disappeared.  I have phone conversations with a title company, lender, and clients along the way. I add a pending sign to a property that just went under contract.

1:00-2:00 p.m.  Change in plans!  I was going to finish the paperwork, but I got a call from a buyer who wanted to see a home in Lake of the Woods.  I work on scheduling a showing for later in the day.  Then I head to the office and do a little more research on the home in Lake of the Woods.  I check in with a builder on the progress of a home for my buyers that should be completed in a few weeks.

2:00-2:30 p.m.  I have a scheduled call with a moving company that a seller is using to help coordinate an out of state move.

2:30-5:00 p.m.  I complete a comparative market analysis for a seller.  I force myself to finish the paperwork from this morning. Then I head out just before four for the showing with my buyer in Lake of the Woods.  During this time, I also have answered several phone calls including one from someone in California trying to get me to extend my car warranty and another from the “finance department of the business.”

5:00-7:00 p.m.  It’s dinner time for this Locust Grove Realtor ®!  I arrive home after the showing and have dinner with my family.  Afterwards, I do some homework with the littlest Jones and play the game of Life.  Spoiler alert:  It didn’t go well.  I won and the littlest Jones lost.

7:00 p.m.  I touch base with a client about coordinating times for a construction crew to come to her property.  Then my email notification rings and I see that there is an offer for one of my seller’s homes.  Yeah!  I look it over and jump on the phone with the seller to discuss.

8:45 p.m.  It’s time to call it a day; a few episodes of the Office and this Locust Grove Realtor ® is out.
