Over the past few months, I’ve talked about how to stage a kid’s bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom in a home for sale. Today let’s talk about staging a primary bedroom. Like all the other rooms in your home, the purpose of staging is to help buyers who tour your home be able to picture themselves living in it. When buyers are searching for a home for sale in Lake of the Woods, Wilderness Shores in Locust Grove, or anywhere else in Orange county, they are looking for the space and storage available in the primary bedroom. With a little bit of time and effort, staging a primary bedroom will help to make it as appealing of a space as possible.

Keep the floorplan simple One concern that buyers often have is if their furniture will fit into the room. To help buyers visualize their bedroom set in the space, keep yours simple. Remove any excess pieces, like a trunk, extra chair, or desk from the room and clean off the tops of dressers and nightstands. Make sure nightstands are not pulled tightly against the bed as this can give the impression that your furniture doesn’t fit in the room.

Add lights While it may not be practical for sleeping, opening up the curtains and blinds during a showing fills the room with inviting light. If you’ve got a bedroom that is naturally dark, consider adding or just turning on the bedside lamps before a showing or switching up the lightbulbs in your light fixtures to a brighter color.

Use Neutral Bedding Giving the primary bedroom a feeling of relaxation and calmness doesn’t have to be expensive. Switch out the bedding to a neutral color and use some pillows or a throw blanket to add a pop of color. Most importantly make sure to make the bed well every morning so that it is always ready for a showing.

Clean the closet Since your home is on the market, now is the perfect time to decide what you want to take with you to your new home. Go through the closet and create piles for donation and trash. Pack up any out of season clothing in boxes or suitcases. Creating space in the closet helps buyers picture their items in there.

Tuck away valuables Bedrooms are often the location of jewelry, medications, and other valuables. While no one wants to imagine that something could be lost, stolen, or damaged during a home showing, it’s always best to err on the side of caution. Make sure to secure any valuables.

Get a laundry basket It can be tough to keep the primary bedroom showing ready at all times when your home is on the market. Sometimes showing requests catch us off guard and there isn’t much time to clean up. When this happens, use a laundry basket to collect all the items that are on the floor, dressers, or just not where they belong. Tuck the basket in the car with you and after the showing you can work on putting the items away.

Putting a little effort into staging a primary bedroom can benefit sellers. Using these simple tips will help you have your bedroom showing ready. For other home tips and tricks check out the articles below.
